Useful Basics – White Tee Shirt
This week I’m continuing with my useful basics series and we are going to look at a really classic basic item of clothing – the white tee shirt. Many You Tubers and Bloggers sing the praises of this item- and with good reason – it goes with so many other things and can be dressed up or down to suit the occasion.
In my opinion there are some rules, as always, to observe when you choose a white tee shirt:
- Make sure that the white tee shirt you choose is in a white that suits your own colouring. It doesn’t have to be a pure white one as only people with cool colouring look good in those. Those of us with a warm undertone are better in an off-white, winter white, cream or ivory ‘white’ .
- If you have a large bust, then a v-necked tee shirt will look better as it ‘breaks up’ your chest area and makes it look smaller. You can wear a scoop neckline too but not too low.
- The cut of the tee shirt needs to flatter your body shape. If you have an hourglass shape then some shaping in the tee shirt will look good. If you are straight in the body then you can get away with a more boxy shape.
- I wouldn’t spend a huge amount on a white tee shirt, particularly if you like your white to be really white. After a lot of laundering they will lose their optimum whiteness so you will have to buy a new one, or more than one, every year.
A great online shop to get your white tee shirts from is Kettlewell Colours. They have whites to suit all colourings and are very good quality without being too expensive.
White tee shirts can be worn all year round e.g. in summer on their own, in spring and autumn under a jacket or cardigan, in winter under a jumper. They can be tucked in or worn outside, knotted to give some shape – they really are a versatile piece of clothing. A long sleeved white tee shirt will provide extra warmth in winter or, again, can be worn on its own or under a jacket or cardigan. White tee-shirts provide a plain background to showcase jewellery too.
Keep looking until you find the right one, but it doesn’t matter if you are over 50 – there is a white tee shirt out there for you.
This is my last post for 2021 so I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
