Are you ready for Autumn?
It’s already September and the days are most definitely drawing in and have even been more than a little chilly of late. In early autumn we do get some warmer days, however, which helps the winter to be that much shorter.
How prepared are you for the upcoming seasons? If you haven’t done so already, now is the time to get your wardrobe ready for the cooler months.
Transitioning your wardrobe into Autumn
Although popular opinion is that you can wear white well into autumn, I personally think that white linen items need to be taken out of your wardrobe and put away until next summer. The same for pastel linen clothes, straw bags and strappy sandals. Once we get to autumn, it feels somehow ‘wrong’ to be wearing summer type clothing, even if the weather is good. However, white jeans can be worn a bit longer – into October but only if the weather is dry as mud splashes on white jeans are not a good look!
If we get a heatwave in September/October then it’s fine to wear darker linens (in your colour palette) and chunky sandals.
Long sleeved tee shirts, tops and blouses are fine to wear in the autumn and can be layered underneath cardigans, jumpers, waistcoats, a knitted tank top and jackets if necessary.
Jeans, trousers or skirts are good to wear at this time of year but, as mentioned previously, nothing too summery looking.
If the weather does turn cold, then boots are fine to wear, as well as loafers, ballet flats and trainers.
Colours
Be sure to stay within your colour palette if you can, then all the clothing items you buy or acquire will go together. At the moment, burgundy is going to be the colour of the autumn/winter season. This is a cool colour so is fine if you are a Winter or Summer but not so much if you are Spring or Autumn. You can wear it on your lower half if you want to though and put one of your more flattering colours on your top half.
